Monica DiCenso is a Managing Director and Head of the Global Investment Opportunities (GIO) Group at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. As a senior leader of the firm, Monica sets the strategic direction for a team of 50-plus Investment Specialists who advise the firm’s largest and most sophisticated clients, including ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices and financial professionals. The GIO Group delivers cross-asset class management for complex investment requirements and opportunistic strategies. They are a highly specialized team drawn from the intellectual strength of J.P. Morgan, designed to serve a global client base and offer institutional-caliber coverage.

Throughout two decades immersed in equities and financial markets through various economic cycles, Monica has earned a reputation in the professional community as a specialist in this space. She has been featured on CNBC, Bloomberg and other televised business programs, and in various newspapers and trade publications discussing her views on equity investing and market positioning. Monica’s background comprises both the institutional lens of investment banking and exposure to the breadth of wealth management resources at the Private Bank.

Before joining GIO in 2015, Monica was the Head of U.S. Equity Strategy at J.P. Morgan Global Wealth Management, where she led a team of strategists to identify equity ideas, thematic brokerage options trades and single stock selections for the firm’s recommended trading lists. She joined the Private Bank in 2012 from the Investment Bank, where she served as an Equity Research Analyst on a top Institutional Investor–ranked team. Previously, she worked as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Monica graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Accounting and a concentration in Economics. She is a Certified Public Accountant in New York State. Her philanthropic interests are centered on educating young women as they contemplate a career in finance and math, and empowering female clients to ensure their voices are heard.

Geoffrey Hart is a banker with the J.P. Morgan Private Bank where he focuses his efforts in connecting entrepreneurs and investment and real estate principals to the full breadth of resources across J.P. Morgan’s global platform, delivered locally in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Geoff has a passion for working with individuals and families in helping them grow their businesses, protect their wealth creation, and prepare for liquidity and diversification events. Geoff and the J.P. Morganteam then guide their clients strategically through the intention of their wealth including business and personal aspirations, enabling future generations, and philanthropic interests –while partnering to meet each client’s unique timing, risk, and tax objectives.

Before joining J.P. Morgan, Geoff was Managing Director and Sales Development Coordinator with FBR Capital Markets, where he worked with dozens of family offices, pension plans, private equity funds, mutual funds and hedge funds in equity researchand equity private placement distribution. He was also responsible for the training and development of a 25-person sales team. Prior to FBR, he was Director of Sales and Marketing in the Finance Practice of the Corporate Executive Board, where he spenttime with over 300 of the Fortune 1000 CFOs and helped them tackle their strategic challenges.

Geoff earned his MBA in Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Duke University. He currently serves as a Board Member for the Wharton Club of the National Capital Region in the DC area.  Stephen Shaya, M.D. - Akkad Ventures

Stephen Shaya, M.D.'s journey has been one of service instilled by his Iraqi Christian upbringing. He graduated from Birmingham Brother Rice High School Summa Cum Laude was awarded a Merit Scholarship to attend Wayne State University. Dr. Shaya won many leadership awards, including the Outstanding Student Leader in 1991, and became a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Grant Awardee. He served on the Wayne State University Board of Governors from 1991 to 1993 and then attended Wayne State Medical School graduating in 1996. Dr. Shaya subsequently trained in Family Practice and then did a fellowship in Occupational and Environmental Health. Since 2004, Dr. Shaya has been the Executive Servant Leader at J & B Medical which is a privately held global health care consortium. Founded in 1996, Stephen worked closely with his family to start eighteen different business enterprises with customers all globally. Many describe him as an "intrapreneur", someone who behaves as an entrepreneur within a large organization. Dr. Shaya's efforts have received many recognitions, including the 2015 Global Distinguished Health Care Award from the Center of Economic and Leadership Development, and a United States Congressional Commendation. In addition, Dr. Shaya received the Global Medical Innovation and Leadership Award on August 19, 2016, presented at the UN along with a commendation from the New York State Senate. May of 2021, Dr. Shaya was presented with a Vatican Pontifical Hero Award given to individuals who through generosity, compassion, wisdom, and leadership. He was named to the International Council at Harvard's Kennedy School Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. January 30, 2022, Dr. Shaya spoke at the World Expo in Dubai on how to reimagine the global medical supply chain. June 2022, he was awarded the Presidential Leadership Award and Presidential Gold Medal by the FBI's Citizen's Academy. May of 2023, the Shaya Family received the Order of Charity from Ascension Health for their lifelong devotion to serving their community. July 2023, Dr. Shaya was awarded American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (“AAPI”) Presidential Healthcare Leadership Award for Revolutionizing Healthcare Delivery. The Shaya Family was awarded the Presidential Leadership Award in June of 2024 to supporting community partnerships to engage, educate, and empower the nations’ youth. At every turn, he demonstrates his grandmother's favorite phrase, which was from Mother Teresa. "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love."

Shawn Springs - CEO of InnateIQ

Chief Executive Officer using his strong networking skills and passion for learning, connecting, and growth to lead Windpact, a Technology and Materials Data company that is driving innovation and accelerating development by providing critical data and analysis tools.

Shawn and his team partner with clients in a broad range of industries and applications, including sports, military, and automotive. The company’s technology helps clients solve difficult manufacturing challenges, enabling brands to move into a new era of product development.

His inspiration behind the founding of Windpact stemmed from his 13 seasons playing football in the NFL. Drafted third overall in the 1st round of the 1997 draft, he spent time with three teams, the Seattle Seahawks, the Washington Football Team, and the New England Patriots. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1998, the Seahawks 35th Anniversary team, and was chosen as a Washingtonian of the Year for his impact in the community.

Shawn completed a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from The Ohio State University. As a member of the football team, he was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten Athlete and Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1996.

He is a TEDx presenter, giving a talk entitled “Tackling Helmet Protection Head On.” Shawn is a board member of Boulder Crest Foundation, supporting combat veterans, first responders, and their families working through traumatic brain injury. He has pledged his donate his brain to support CTE and Concussion Research through the Concussion Legacy Foundation.

Matt Gittleman - JHH vc

Matt serves as the investment director for the JHH vc family office where he invests in promising early stage startups. Prior to this role, he spent four years with Blu Venture Investors where he oversaw the investment pipeline for all cybersecurity related deal flow. Matt serves as an advisor and board observer to early stage companies, supporting those companies, primarily, with fundraising initiatives. Aaron kofford

Aaron joined DARPA in January 2019 in the Strategic Technology Office (STO) of the Defense Advanced Projects Agency (DARPA). At DARPA, Aaron is responsible for creating breakthrough technologies and capabilities for national security. He has developed and managed large scale technology efforts in the fields of fundamental and applied artificial intelligence for military planning, tactical communication networks, electronic warfare, and autonomous maritime systems of systems.

Prior to joining DARPA, Aaron worked on advanced emerging technology projects for NASA, DoD, and the Intelligence Community (IC). He is technically agile with has broad experience in many challenging fields including underwater Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), advanced electronic warfare techniques, small size, weight and power (SWaP) sensor systems, heterogeneous systems of systems, internal rocket motor ballistics, and novel battery technologies. Aaron worked as a scientist and program manager at Raytheon BBN Technologies on a wide variety of DARPA and IC projects in the fields of sensing, algorithms, systems of systems, and effects generation. Before that, he worked on NASA launch vehicles as an internal rocket motor ballistician running performance predictions and post-flight performance evaluations for the Space Shuttle as well as future manned launch vehicle designs.

 

Mike Sherbakov

Mike Sherbakov serves as co-founder and General Partner at The Veteran Fund, a pre-seed venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, and Managing Director of Southern California’s Founder Institute, the world's largest startup accelerator. Mike previously led three business ventures from zero to exit, scaled his organization to thousands of investor members and hundreds of portfolio companies, and proudly served on active duty as a United States Marine.

Garrett Klugh - Falk Ventures

Garrett Klugh is the COO of Falk Ventures, the venture arm of sports agent, David Falk. He is an internationally recognized Olympian and frequent guest speaker, lecturer and panelist in the sports-tech industry. Garrett earned his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University and his MBA from George Washington University. At SDSU, Garrett served as the President of the men’s rowing team. He went on to represent the U.S. on six National Teams and one Olympic Team (Athens 2004). Garrett won the World Rowing Championship in 1999 and was honored to be being selected by his peers as the Athlete Representative on the Board of Directors for USRowing. After retiring from rowing in 2004, Garrett served his community as a police officer with the San Diego Police Department, where he was given multiple commendations for his work. He then worked for the United States Olympic Committee as one of two Olympians selected for a management development program. Garrett worked at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, Vancouver, and London, adding meaningful value in operations, management, strategy, and protocol. In 2010, Garrett joined 776 Original Marketing, where he built and managed the athlete representation business unit. Concurrently, Garrett accepted a teaching position at the University of Colorado as adjunct faculty. He held that position for two years while completing his MBA degree. Garrett now focuses on running the venture activity for David Falk where he manages a portfolio of companies while also sourcing and vetting new opportunities. When he isn’t running operations at Falk Ventures, he provides outsourced business development services to early-to-mid-stage start-ups at Huddle Sports Partners, an organization he co-founded. Deeply embedded in the start-up community, Garrett also acts as an advisor and mentor to several companies and accelerators.

Jake Silverstein is Chairman & CEO of Stormlight Holdings, a Family Office and private investment platform. He is an experienced sports investor, currently co-owner and Director of Swansea City AFC (English Championship) and from 2015-2021 was co-owner and Alternate Governor for MLS's Houston Dynamo FC & NWSL's Houston Dash. During his time with Houston, he served on MLS's Board of Governors and Business Ventures committee. Jake continues his family's long-running support of fostering innovation as a Vision Circle member of the X-Prize Foundation, and leads the WJ Silverstein Family Trust's philanthropic efforts to make soccer more accessible to children of all backgrounds. He entered university at age 15 and earned a BA in pure mathematics and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Eric Islinger - South River Capital

An experienced finance executive with nearly 20 years of experience in Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, and Private Equity/Venture Capital. Eric is also a co-founder and active board member for multiple growth-oriented business. Prior to founding his own companies, Eric was a Senior Director and head of the M&A program for the Americas with SAP’s Private Equity Group. Amanda was most recently CEO of CrowdSmart, a Silicon Valley startup pioneering human-interactive AI for collaborative problem solving. Mike Stefanski

Mike Stefanski is a multi-disciplined senior executive with extensive financial, strategy and leadership experience in the mobility and communications sector. He currently is a strategic advisor and serves as an advisor to Bancroft Capital, a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned financial services firm, the Villanova School of Business Graduate Advisory Council, Invent Penn State, and the DeSales University Business School Advisory Council. He teaches strategy and leadership as an adjunct instructor in the De Sales University MBA program.

Mike retired from Verizon Communications after 27 years where he held several executive roles including Senior Vice President – Investor Relations, Corporate Treasurer, Global Wireline Segment – CFO and Wireless Controller. He focused on designing, supporting, funding and implementing global strategic and operational initiatives to create multi-stakeholder value.

Mike has a passion for developing people to build lasting value for individuals and companies. His volunteer activities include mentoring young professionals and serving on the non-profit boards of Young Catholic Professionals and Regina Academy at St John the Baptist.

Mike holds a BS in Accounting from Penn State University, an MBA from Villanova University and is a Certified Public Accountant and member of National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD.DC).

Amir Ansari - xFoundry@UMD &XPRIZE

Amir is the Co-Founder and Inaugural Executive Director of the IDEA Factory at the University of Maryland and is responsible for leading a multi-million-dollar initiative that promotes innovation, collaboration, creativity, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary design.  This initiative aims to help address society's grand challenges and provide the skills and experiences necessary for effective problem-solving.

He is the Founder and General Partner of VaticX, a global hybrid accelerator that optimizes value creation for growth-stage technology-based companies by providing them with market access, mentorship, monetization expertise, and access to capital.  In addition, Amir serves on the board of leading-edge companies in Artificial Intelligence, Web 3.0, and Crypto Technologies. 

Amir started his career in telecommunications as the Co-Founder and CTO of telecom technologies inc, the pioneering developer of Voice Over IP technologies that dramatically reduced the cost of telephone calls and became the key technology innovation for telecom operators in the late 1990s.  After the acquisition of telecom technologies by Sonus Networks in 2001, Amir Co-Founded and was the CTO of Prodea Systems, a groundbreaking developer of Internet of Things services and technologies.

As an inventor, Amir holds over 60 US and foreign patents in multimedia distribution, data privacy, edge computing, and Voice Over IP.  These patents are used in popular consumer products such as media streaming devices, smart-home solutions, smart speakers, elder care systems, smart buildings, and connected cars.  Additionally, his patents also help define how users can maintain control over the privacy and safety of their data while benefiting from the capabilities of smart devices.

Amir is actively involved with several non-profit organizations that strive for social development and a more sustainable environment.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the XPPRIZE foundation and is a member of the XPRIZE Foundation's Vision Circle.  Together with his family, he was a title sponsor for the Ansari XPRIZE, a $10 million cash award for the first non-governmental organization to launch a reusable crewed spacecraft into space twice within two weeks.

Matt is a partner and co-founder of Alimento Capital, an early stage growth investment firm focused on technology investments in the agriculture and food sectors. 

Prior to Alimento Capital, he worked in finance with companies such as Ares Management, The Carlyle Group, Morgan Stanley, AIG and Jefferies.  

Additionally he founded a data aggregation business called Pulpfree, Inc which was acquired by Nielsen and rebranded Nielsen Buzzmetrics.  He is also a serial investor and mentor for early stage companies.  

He graduated from Georgetown University and currently lives in New York City.  

Rich Nespola - Working Lab Capital

Results oriented executive with a demonstrated track record of success and contribution to the bottom line. 20+ years of experience leading teams, directing strategic programs, developing products, managing clients, shaping executive level decisions, and re-engineering processes with a proven record of superior performance and increased responsibility.

Claire Smith - Beyond Impact Fund II

Claire Smith is a vegan fintech entrepreneur and impact investor who currently splits her time between Ireland and Switzerland. She founded the humane investment platform Beyond Investing, which designs cruelty-free programs in public equity markets and undertakes venture capital investment in vegan, plant-based and cruelty-free businesses through Beyond Impact. Beyond Investing created the US Vegan Climate Index, a stock index which screens out all animal exploitation and fossil fuel from a US market benchmark, listed as a tracker fund on the NYSE as the US Vegan Climate ETF (ticker: VEGN) in September 2019. Further indexes created are the Europe, Global and International Vegan Climate Indexes and Vegan World Index of small to midcap growth stocks targeted to the vegan theme. In 2018 she co-founded Beyond Animal, a networking and funding platform to accelerate the growth of the vegan economy, and is President of Beyond Cruelty Foundation, which campaigns for zero animal exploitation and funds safe havens for animals.

Claire received recognition as "Investment leader of the year" for her pioneering work in vegan investing by Environmental Finance in their 2022 Sustainable Investment Awards.

Phillip Alvarez, Ph.D. - Associate Director, Ventures and Partnerships - xFoundry@UMD

Combining his Ph.D. in Biophysics with his experience in startup research, development, and fundraising, Phillip is xFoundry’s head of strategic partnerships, special projects, and all things venture-related.

During and after his Ph.D., Phillip worked in startup accelerator and consulting settings where he helped found companies, raise over $500,000 in funding, and develop cutting edge innovations in medical, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. Today, Phillip orchestrates our partnership efforts across all units at UMD, as well as externally with companies and other universities. He also leads non-curricular strategic efforts, demonstrating important components of our core mission of multidisciplinary collaboration and innovation through organizing other competitions, faculty teams, research projects, and collaborative events with key experts on and off UMD’s campus.

Amir is the Co-Founder and Inaugural Executive Director of the IDEA Factory at the University of Maryland and is responsible for leading a multi-million-dollar initiative that promotes innovation, collaboration, creativity, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary design.  This initiative aims to help address society's grand challenges and provide the skills and experiences necessary for effective problem-solving.

He is the Founder and General Partner of VaticX, a global hybrid accelerator that optimizes value creation for growth-stage technology-based companies by providing them with market access, mentorship, monetization expertise, and access to capital.  In addition, Amir serves on the board of leading-edge companies in Artificial Intelligence, Web 3.0, and Crypto Technologies. 

Amir started his career in telecommunications as the Co-Founder and CTO of telecom technologies inc, the pioneering developer of Voice Over IP technologies that dramatically reduced the cost of telephone calls and became the key technology innovation for telecom operators in the late 1990s.  After the acquisition of telecom technologies by Sonus Networks in 2001, Amir Co-Founded and was the CTO of Prodea Systems, a groundbreaking developer of Internet of Things services and technologies.

As an inventor, Amir holds over 60 US and foreign patents in multimedia distribution, data privacy, edge computing, and Voice Over IP.  These patents are used in popular consumer products such as media streaming devices, smart-home solutions, smart speakers, elder care systems, smart buildings, and connected cars.  Additionally, his patents also help define how users can maintain control over the privacy and safety of their data while benefiting from the capabilities of smart devices.

Amir is actively involved with several non-profit organizations that strive for social development and a more sustainable environment.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the XPPRIZE foundation and is a member of the XPRIZE Foundation's Vision Circle.  Together with his family, he was a title sponsor for the Ansari XPRIZE, a $10 million cash award for the first non-governmental organization to launch a reusable crewed spacecraft into space twice within two weeks.

 Stephen Shaya, M.D. - Akkad Ventures

Stephen Shaya, M.D.'s journey has been one of service instilled by his Iraqi Christian upbringing. He graduated from Birmingham Brother Rice High School Summa Cum Laude was awarded a Merit Scholarship to attend Wayne State University. Dr. Shaya won many leadership awards, including the Outstanding Student Leader in 1991, and became a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Grant Awardee. He served on the Wayne State University Board of Governors from 1991 to 1993 and then attended Wayne State Medical School graduating in 1996. Dr. Shaya subsequently trained in Family Practice and then did a fellowship in Occupational and Environmental Health.
